Caroline Davies
Caroline Davies presented ‘A Feast for the Eyes’. Her beautifully embroidered and sculptured food items certainly left us feeling hungry! Linda and her team have updated the sales table and members helped to decorate our Christmas tree for the church fete.
Nicola Jarvis ‘Avonlea Moth’
Nicola’s expertise (and extreme patience) worked it’s magic as we all managed to silk shade our leaves and pad the flower petals on the beautiful Avonlea moth. She has agreed to come back to Romford for another workshop in 2027
Joyce Wong ‘The Art of Needle painting’
At our recent afternoon meeting in October, we welcomed Joyce Wong via Zoom. She inspired us with her art of needle painting and shared the process from her photos to finished intricate embroidery. Joyce’s observation of colour and detail are amazing.
There are also some items from recent workshops and the start of a new travelling book round.
Alison Hulme My Life in Stitches
Alison Hulme entertained the group with her lively anecdotes of her many occupations before becoming a textile artist and employing her beloved as a model, with a revealing photo as proof! Alison is returning to do a printing workshop next year which promises to be very lively.
Rob Jones Sashiko handstitch
Rob was so popular that we ran two workshops with these amazing results. Thanks to Rob for his very patient and clear demonstarations.
Dot Ronaldson “My Creative Process”
Dot inspired us all with lots of advice and shared her process on how to get started on a project. She then talked through her samples to illustrate how these initial ideas were developed into her huge range of exciting work from small brooches to large framed canvases.
Wee Bothy Art
Eleanor and Holly are joint owners of Wee Bothy Art. They led our members through the fine lino cutting to create their beautiful prints.
Stephanie Smart “The House of Embroidered Paper”
Thank you to Stephanie Smart for her fabulous presentation on ‘The House of Embroidered Paper’. Yes, all paper and free motion machine embroidery. Her videos included dance and song to highlight the era and location of her amazing work. She researched to find the names of people who would have worn these costumes in the locality of the houses where they were exhibited. We look forward to seeing her shoe exhibition that Stephanie is currently working on. The photos show a sample of her postcards that were on sale. Credit for those photos go to Ray Sullivan.
Rosie James “Stitch Draw”
Rosie James led this fabulous workshop with enthusiasm and energy to trace vintage patterns, use free motion machine embroidery and apply colourful applique.

Plus a sample book by Dallas and a collection of Wendy’s work.
Kate Pankhurst
Another brilliant workshop with our Kate! She gave us clear and structured demonstrations on how to mount our work properly.
Pamela Print
Pamela Print’s handweaving is influenced by Japanese Boro, Kantha and Art Deco. Her earlier work with CAD for leading fashion groups led her to setting up her own business. Her double cloth weaving is amazing!
MrXStitch
Jamie Chalmers lives too far away for a visit so we were very fortunate to be able to welcome him via Zoom. He gave us a fabulous presentation of how his interest in cross stitch blossomed into his commitment to change peoples perspective of textile art through teaching, his magazine XStitch and his podcasts NeedleXChange. He introduced us to a collection of very talented artists with their own stories to tell via photos of their work.
We also had the opportunity to showcase members work. Thank you to all who contributed to this wonderful display.
